Flex: Virtual Minecraft Madness

EFK Flex Programs consists of 4 pre-recorded videos that students can follow at their own pace.  Videos will be sent via a link with a password.

Minecraft is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures Explore engineering concepts through Minecraft in this pre-recorded video series. This class will introduce students to potential & kinetic energy, electrical engineering through Redstone, chemical engineering through farming and more!

Materials & Equipment;
• computer/laptop, a mouse (recommended but not mandatory) OR Gaming Console
(PS4/XBox/Nintendo Switch)
• Any Modern Version of Minecraft with Creative Mode; or purchase Minecraft Java for $26.95 at
https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/
• Solid Internet Connection for watching EFK Flex Videos (no internet is required for game)

Flex: Virtual Kodu Kart Racing

EFK Flex Programs consists of 4 pre-recorded videos that students can follow at their own pace.  Videos will be sent via a link with a password.

Race to the finish and create your own racing game in Microsoft’s Kodu gaming environment. From terrain design to enemy selection, students are placed at the wheel and given full control to design their own video game while exploring the foundations of coding. Kick your creativity in gear with Kodu Kart Racing.

Materials & Equipment:
• computer/laptop – PC only not compatible with Mac or Linux
• a mouse (recommended but not mandatory)

Flex: Virtual Coding with Scratch

EFK Flex Programs consists of 4 pre-recorded videos that students can follow at their own pace.  Videos will be sent via a link with a password.

What’s more fun than playing an interactive video game? Writing one! Video sensing allows students to design and program their own video games and then test them by interacting with the program via webcam. In this Scratch program, students create their own games, art, and musical instruments while exploring coding foundations. Get up and get moving with Engineering for Kids and Scratch!

Materials & Equipment:
• computer/laptop
• A webcam
• a mouse (recommended but not mandatory)
• Solid Internet Connection for watching EFK Flex Videos and accessing Scratch at (scratch.mit.edu) No
download is required, however you can download it if you would like to use it offline.
• All of these lessons utilize the webcam functionality in your web browser. If you’re using an external webcam, please make sure all necessary drivers have been installed and updated. The driver should install automatically when plugging your webcam into the USB port. If you’re having trouble connecting your webcam you’ll need to review the instructions provided from your manufacturer.

Flex: Virtual Introduction to App Development

EFK Flex Programs consists of 4 pre-recorded videos that students can follow at their own pace.  Videos will be sent via a link with a password.

App development has increased manifold in the past 5 years due to lower costs and easier access
to essential tools, so give your engineer the knowledge to stay ahead in today’s technological society. We’re offering a unique experience in which students get to code, test, and create their own apps in real-time using an easy-to-understand format. The best part about this program is that they’ll be able to save their created apps right to their (or your own) devices for play anywhere, anytime!

Materials & Equipment:

• a mouse (recommended but not mandatory)

Virtual: Jr. STEM Club

Calling new and returning students!  The Engineering for Kids Jr. STEM Club introduces students to a new, hands-on lesson every week from various engineering disciplines.  For each lesson, students focus on developoing 21 Century skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and peer collaboration.  These life skills provide students with the confidence to approach challenges in their lives and realize they can succeed in anything!

Virtual: App Devt-Create Your Own Board Game

The Engineering For Kids CODING Club is going virtual! Coding helps develop your child’s creativity, problem solving skills, teamwork and technology knowledge in an engaging, collaborative way though fun and practical challenges.  Classes will be taught LIVE by one of our EFK teachers via a district approved platform.

APP DEVELOPMENT: CREATE YOUR OWN BOARD GAME!
App development has increased manifold in the past 5 years due to lower costs and easier access 
to essential tools, so give your engineer the knowledge to stay ahead in today’s technological society. We’re offering a unique experience in which students get to code, test, and create their own apps in real-time using an easy-to-understand format. In this session, students create different parts of their board game – the board, tokens, dice, etc. and put them all together to create their own game that they can share and play with others on a mobile device.

Requirements:
•    Basic computer skills: typing & mouse skills, as well as switching tabs and splitting screens
•    Strong internet connection
•    A tablet/device to join the live class and a laptop with mouse/mousepad to code online.
•    A parent or responsible adult is requested to be on-hand at the start of each class to help with any technical difficulties.
