What Happens in a Music Together® Class? |
By Carole Hayward on January 06, 2023 |
#HelloEverybody! So glad that you decided to stop by and read this post. Not sure how you made your way here. Maybe you heard some friends talking enthusiastically about a Music Together class that they took with their kids, and you wanted to check it out for yourself. Maybe you were researching neighborhood music classes for your child, and a link to my site popped up in your feed. Regardless: Welcome! Exactly what happens in a Music Together class? That’s a question I often get. I think this short video does a great job of answering that question as it showcases so well all the fun activities we offer. We might sit in a circle and start a singalong. We might introduce a range of musical instruments (guitars, ukuleles, drums and maracas, for example). We definitely encourage play and a lot of fun physical movement and activities. Our goal is simple: We want to create a joyful time for you and your children to develop a mutual love of and appreciation for music—in all its forms. If this sounds just like what you’ve been wanting for your child, please check out our current schedule of classes. We have something for everyone. I look forward to meeting your family in a future class! Let’s have a lot of fun making music together in 2023! |

Oh, Baby! The Art and Science of Exposing Infants to Music |
By Carole Hayward on January 03, 2023 |
University of Washington Professor Dr. Patricia Kuhl has been at the important work of studying how the brains of babies get “built” for quite some time. Her research explores the importance of early experiences and how they are strong predictors of future outcomes. In this conference talk delivered about five years ago, Dr. Kuhl discusses research that her team conducted, documenting how exposing babies to music and musical instruments helped train the infants to pay attention to patterns. Developing the ability to predict what’s going to happen next is a very important life skill, she explained, as it positively impacts things such as social interactions, cognitive development, and the ability to hold (as well as switch) attention when needed. Registration is open now for our 2023 classes. Sign up and be delighted by your baby’s ability to learn important, fundamental skills through the art and science of music. And have a fun, bonding moment while doing so! |

Keep the Celebration Going... |
By Carole Hayward on December 30, 2022 |
We've had so much fun with our nightly lullaby sessions. I love the power that music has in connecting us to one other, reminding us of special moments in our own lives, especially the familiar soundtracks of our December traditions. (Raise your hand if you started singing along in the past month to a familiar holiday jingle while shopping at Trader Joe’s.) This is what Music Together is all about: Creating opportunities for you and your child to bond together over music. In each class, we throw in a heaping dose of wonder while introducing your children to foundational skills that will help them build a lifelong love for singing and performing music.) Enjoy every single moment of the holiday season celebrating family time with your loved ones. Make sure to introduce your children to the special holiday music that you loved hearing as a kid. Sing along. Dance. Laugh. Be silly. Make wonderful memories. If you’d like to keep that love for music going in the new year, sign up your child now for a 2023 class. |

Join Us for Joy Every Evening This Month at 7:00 p.m. |
By Carole Hayward on December 20, 2022 |
Quick! What’s a Of course it’s JOY!
Here at Mister Mike’s Music, we’ve been hard at work this month bringing you joyful moments of Music Together time—live from our living rooms and/or one of our favorite city street corners. You never know what instrument we’ll use to get the party started for one of our Facebook Live singalongs or whose adorable pet makes a guest appearance (Good Boy!). Parents: We know that joy can often be hard to find at this time of the year. Between end-of-year work deadlines, planning holiday get togethers, last-minute shopping, and trying to cross off instead of adding more to that never-ending to-do list, the stress of it all can crowd out moments of family fun. Maybe take just a few minutes this month to snuggle up with your favorite humans (furry family members too!) and participate in one of our singalongs. We’re on Facebook Live every evening at 7:00 p.m. Be silly, have fun, experience JOY. You deserve it. If you post pictures or videos of you and your family singing together and tag us @mister_mikes_music, we'll enter you into our Instagram contest. You could win a Facebook Live Lullaby session in your own home. Enter before December 26. And remember: We are here to help you continue that joyful streak in the New Year too! Register now for one of our 2023 classes. Now, where did I put my... "HAS ANYONE SEEN MY UKELELE?" It was right next to this pile of wrapping paper. Someone may be getting a re-gifted ukulele this year… |

Grateful for the Families We Teach |
By Carole Hayward on November 23, 2022 |
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to share how grateful I am for all of the families who share their experiences with others. During the height of the pandemic, Gregory B. Woodward wrote "Music Together is the ultimate early childhood music class—all families should have access to it." Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving, and we hope to see you in the New Year! Registration is open for our next session of classes. |
