Playmakers® Arts Exploration Ages 2+
An innovative introductory theatre class for young budding actors looking to play and create in a nourishing, confidence-building environment. Building upon the natural born talent of play-acting, we teach them enriched story-telling through speech, characterization, singing, dance, puppetry, costumery and, of course, comedy. The actors engage in real plays, scenes and songs that they help create! Families and friends are invited to our open class theatrical celebration at the end of the session.
Creative Drama
Gives children the opportunity to explore their creativity in a supportive, noncompetitive and age-appropriate setting. Through improv, theatre games, pantomime and storytelling, children are encouraged to express who they are while developing self-confidence, social and motor skills through an enriching class experience with their peers.
Intro to Children's Theatre - 1st grade +
An introduction to our Children's Theatre, our mini musical theatre class incorporates theatre games, singing, dancing, and acting. Students will learn excerpts from popular children's musicals. An open class performance will be at the end of each semester in the theatre.

Senior Teen Fall Production Theatre - Grades 10-12
Teen Theatre Fall Production. Auditions held in September and production in January/February. Students may be called up to two days a week for rehearsal with Wednesday being the main rehearsal day. Registration & Auditions for Spring Production will be held in December.
Teen Spring Musical Grades 8-12
Teen Theatre Spring Production. Auditions held in December and production in May/June. Students may be called up to two days a week for rehearsal with Wednesday being the main rehearsal day.
Adult Production Workshop
Students rehearse every Saturday for the production the end of February/beginning of March. Students must be ready, willing, and able to sing, act, and dance! Auditions are held in September. After auditions, those cast will be required to pay the $100 class fee to accept their role.

Children develop coordination, musicality and creative abilities in a fun, non-competitive environment through vocalization, movement, and imaginative games bringing stories to life.
Little Movers 18 mos+
Little movers and shakers will enjoy dancing movement, music rhythm, games and stories in this fun class. Basic locomotor movement and age-appropriate developmental skills and concepts are all incorporated in this lively program. Drop off optional class for ages 18 months and up. Let's dance!
Pre-Ballet - Ages 3+
Children learn basic dance vocabulary and technique through ballet, modern and creative dance.

Ballet I Ages 6+

Students will learn basic, beginning and advanced-beginning classical ballet technique, terms and steps. Advanced Ballet/Ballet IV - Placement
This class is for more advanced students who already have the dance vocabulary and background to work at this level. There will be an open class at the end of the Fall session for invited guests and parents. Students will also be invited to participate in the annual MST&DA Dance Concert in the Spring.
Hip-Hop Ages 5+
Hip Hop & Athletic Dance is a fun and exciting way for your little one to begin learning basic Hip-Hop movements and other high energy dance styles. This class will focus on rhythm recognition and movements developmentally appropriate for our budding Hip-Hop enthusiasts.
Beginner Hip Hop Ages 6+
Hip-Hop & Athletic Dance is a fun and exciting way for students to begin learning Hip Hop movements and other high energy dance styles. This class will focus on rhythm recognition and dance movements students will love at an appropriate level for their age.
Intermediate Hip Hop Ages 8+
Hip-Hop & Athletic Dance is a fun and exciting way for students to begin learning Hip Hop movements and other high energy dance styles. This class will focus on rhythm recognition and dance movements students will love at an appropriate level for their age.
Introduction to Breakdancing - ages 10+
Learn the fundamentals of breakdancing - top rock, footwork, freezes, and basic b-boying. For ages 10+ or teacher placement.
Advanced Hip-Hop - Placement
A more advanced class for students age 10+ with at least 2 years of hip hop experience. Class focuses on intermediate/advanced technique and choreography. Students may be asked to perform in local events.
Jazz ages 6+
Students will learn basic Jazz technique, terms and steps. Students will develop strength, body alignment, flexibility, gracefulness and musicality while having a great time with their friends! There will be an open class at the end of the session for invited guests. Students will be invited to participate in the MST&DA Dance Concert in the Spring.
Jazz ages 9+
Students will learn beginning and intermediate Jazz technique, terms and steps. Students will develop strength, body alignment, flexibility, gracefulness and musicality while having a great time with their friends! Tap Ages 4+
Students will learn basic tap steps in a low pressure high energy environment. There will be an open class at the end of the Fall session for parents to attend. Students will also be invited to participate in the annual MST&DA Dance Concert in the Spring.
Intermediate Tap - Placement
Students will expand on basic tap steps moving into intermediate level technique. At least one year of tap experience required. Student must be evaluated before placed in class. There will be an open class at the end of the Fall session for parents to attend. Students will also be invited to participate in the annual MST&DA Dance Concert in the Spring.
Toddler Capoeira - Ages 2+
A class that encourages parents to play and learn with their child. Capoeira is a Brazilian dance of African origin incorporating martial arts movements, acrobatics and music. Instilling discipline and creativity, capoeira helps kids grow with confidence, discipline and a positive attitude to life.

Open to all levels, a class that is fun and non-competitive focusing on choreography. Come dance it out!
Barre Workout
Incorporating the ballet barre, this class is a total body workout for improving strength, balance and flexibility.
Pilates
A combination of Pilates, yoga, Alexander technique and core body movements. Designed to correct body alignment.
Vinyassa-Flow Yoga / Jax
This class helps to unite both the body and the breath, moving past the mind and focusing on your “Core” to help you discover your own center. Jax guides you through the breath, which will help allow you to flow through the asanas (postures) that follow.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga focused on holding passive postures for extended periods—typically 3 to 5 minutes or longer. This class is appropriate for all levels.
Zumba ®
A total body workout combining cardio, muscle conditioning, strength, balance and flexibility. This is a high energy, fun workout sure to boost your energy and your dance skills! Prepare to sweat.
1 Month Fitness Class Pass
This affordable and great option for fitness classes allows you to take as many classes as you would like one month from the start date. Perfect for the traveler or someone that has a different schedule every week, pick from any of our fitness classes to attend for one month. We offer up to 8 fitness classes a week on four days.

A class combining multiple techniques to develop musical theatre dance foundations. This class is choreography/audition prep based. The focus is teaching students how to learn choreography quickly.
Special Moving Stories Ages 4+
A class for students with special needs/disabilities ages 4 and up with parent/caregiver. Through storytelling and movement, students will be encouraged in a supportive environment that encourages exploration and expression. Class enhances motor skills, socialization, and confidence.

A fun-filled, active virtual class for adults. A theatre improv class that teaches thinking on your feet, comedic timing, and creating new and interesting situations on the fly. We play short form improv games that eventually lead to long form games. Lots of laughs included! No preparation needed, open to all levels.
Dance Sculpt - Adult Fitness

An upbeat, fun, and energetic dance fitness class for adults. This class mixes latin and house dance styles into one high energy cardio workout. You will love the music and moves......students will actually learn latin ballroom technique during the class.
Musical Tales - Ages 0-4
Toddlers will journey to the land of fairytales with music, rhymes and rhythms. J-Fad the Rad Dad will bring favorite stories to life and students will explore dramatic storytelling through fun vocal and physical activities. Every class is jam-packed with live music played by J-Fad on his guitar and keyboard. This is the perfect age for imagining and acting out well-known characters! Classes have a well-rounded curriculum of singing, dancing, dramatization, creative play and story time!

Arts Mentorship After-school Program
A free afterschool arts program for ages 8-14. Arts Mentorship at UNIS (AM@U) allows members (IB students/pre-IB students) to work with children to develop their leadership and collaborative skills. This program will provide an ample opportunity for your child to learn about theatre, dance, singing, and drawing from students who are pursuing these subjects either academically or independently. Members will create and carry out lesson plans for the children with their peers. AM@U aims to stimulate and sustain an interest in all mediums of art — acting, dance, drawing, etc. — for both its members and its mentees; the club is almost entirely student-run which creates an environment in which members are encouraged to think independently while working in a group.

Music Together ® Mixed-Age
This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five - and through all nine song collections. Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because they foster natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones, older children learn by leading younger ones and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. The class provides a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and offer new ways to play musically at home. Parents, grandparents, or nanny accompany the children individually or together.
The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

MSTDA Holiday Multigenerational Musical Workshop
Be part of an annual tradition on Roosevelt Island! "Ghosts All Around Us" is a new winter holiday musical based on Roosevelt Island with characters from its ghostly past! Each year this musical will change based on the actors who take part and the further development of the story. Participation is open to all adults. There are a limited number of roles for children ages 8+. Children can audition and, if they are not cast in the show, will automatically be enrolled in our performance Children's Theatre.
Pre-Ballet - Ages 2+
An introduction of ballet to those ready to separate for class. Focus is on coordination, following directions, basic technique and language. This is a drop off class only.

An age appropriate ballet class incorporating movement to encourage coordination, flexibility and musicality. Students will learn elementary ballet vocabulary and technique through creative ballet movement.

A fun, basics class giving students the opportunity to learn the foundations of Afro-Brazilian martial art, Capoeira, and hand drumming on a djembe. Traditional rhythms are taught in this culture rich art form.
Tap - Ages 9+ - Placement
Advanced beginner level tap teaching foundations for those with prior tap training.
MOVIE NIGHT - Ages 8+
Join us for a special drop off movie night at The Howe Theatre! A three hour drop off event including a themed activitiy related to the movie being shown.

Salsa Dance Workshop - Adult
Salsa Group class for adults (30 minutes) of shines and (1 hour) partner work. An 8-week workshop with a dacne social and performance for the group at that social. No partner necessary.

Students work on a particular piece chosen by them or the director to perform in a cabaret setting.
Ballet II Ages 7+
For students who have taken Ballet I for at least one year and are 7 years of age or older. This class is a transition into our older Ballet II program for ages 9+. Students will begin to develop an intermediate level.

Action Hero Academy - Ages 7+
Join the fun at The Action Hero Academy and begin your journey in the arts of Theatrical Combat & Action Acting as a young Hero-In-Training! In this class, students will have the opportunity to explore the basics of stage and screen combat. Our diverse curriculum includes swordplay, kali sticks, hand-to-hand fighting, rolls, falls, throws, and more! Along with learning to perform fight choreography safely like their favorite action heroes, students will develop a sense of professional etiquette and build their partnering skills in order to work as valued team members on any production.
Masala Banghra®
Masala Bhangra® is an Indian-dance based program, designed for people of all ages and fitness levels who love to stay physically active. Specifically, it introduces high energy Bhangra and Bollywood dance movements in an easy-to-follow fitness format, and is a mechanism by which thousands of people have been moved, touched and inspired to become physically active.
MSTDA Junior Company Dance I - Audition Required
A class combining multiple techniques to develop strong dance technique and foundations. This class is choreography, competition and audition prep based. The focus is teaching students how to learn choreography quickly and improve their dance technique in multiple styles. Students must audition if not already placed in the program
Summer Production Theatre
With a focus on the development of original new works, the summer production, open to ages 6+, gives students the experience of working on all aspects of a musical production (acting, singing, dance choreography, and line memorization) just like our spring semester. Participants will work with a team of staff members including a Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Composer/Writer, Costume Designer, Set & Props. Rehearsals after casting could be any or all of the 4:30-7pm time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/evenings. Everyone that joins will get a part in the show! Rehearsals are weekly and performance in August. Attendance is mandatory due to short semester.
Open Guided Playtime
An open guided play time for little ones age 0-4 during those cold winter months. Music & Movement encouraging toys will be available, music will be playing and lots of good times will be had in the warmth of the Music & PlayStation space. Parent/Caregiver must stay and oversee their child. Staff is there to assist and encourage play.

Summer Dance Conditioning - Age 9+
A summer dance class for older students incorporating strength, technique, and a variety of dance styles. This is a great class to continue your training in the summer and explore other dance styles like modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet and contemporary. Focus will be on flexibility, strength and choreography.
MSTDA Junior Company Dance II - Audition Required
A class combining multiple techniques to develop strong dance technique and foundations. This class is choreography, competition and audition prep based. The focus is teaching students how to learn choreography quickly and improve their dance technique in multiple styles. Students must audition if not already placed in the program

A class combining strength, flexibility and technique for our older dancers looking to improve in those specific areas.
Theatre Improv Workshop - Ages 8+
A fun-filled, active class for kids 8+. A theatre improv class that teaches thinking on your feet, comedic timing, and creating new and interesting situations on the fly. We play short form improv games that eventually lead to long form games. Lots of laughs included! No preparation needed, open to all levels.
Singing Workshop - Ages 7+
Learn vocal warm ups, exercises, how to best use your voice, and SING!
Mandarin Through Drama - Ages 18 months+
Theatre Yak Yak’s Mandarin Through Drama program for little and young ones provides exposure to the Mandarin language via an engaging platform for participants to make sense of and have fun with the new sounds. Caregivers are empowered to reinforce simple class material so that language internalization continues at home. (So, no prior knowledge of Mandarin needed!) A typical session would be conducted code-switching between Mandarin and English, and would usually include one or more of these elements; sing-along, bilingual storytelling, dramatic enactment, and other forms of theatrical arts.
Adult Jazz Workshop
Perfect for adults who love musical theatre dance and want to learn choreography from some of their favorite shows. Open to all levels, this class is a fun way to dance the night away to your favorite show tunes! Class includes a warm up, stretch and choreography.
Junior Teen Theatre - Grades 8 & 9
Students perform in a production in March that starts rehearsing in September. With a focus on education and performance, students work on all aspects of a production (acting, singing, choreography, memorization and more) with a team of staff members including a Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Stage Manager, Choreographer, Costume Designer, Set & Props. Tuesday rehearsals could be any or all of the 6:30-8:30pm time frame each week with an added rehearsal day in the winter. The week of tech rehearsals and performances are mandatory for all students. Auditions take place in September.
Children's Improv Theatre - Grades 3-7
In this class students will study the fundamentals of improvisation using exercises that help develop strong ensemble and character work. With a focus on stage presence, young actors will develop patience, self confidence, good communication skills, and a respect for other performers and their creativity.
LAMDA - INTRODUCTORY LEVEL Ages 5-7
Aimed at 5 – 7 year olds – students will have fun learning lots of new skills, such as speaking confidently in front of others and developing the ability to hold a conversation regarding one of their favorite books, toys or pictures.
LAMDA - LEVEL 1 Ages 8-10
Level 1 – Students learn their first monologues – Entry only need to learn one piece. One monologue is taken from LAMDA’s anthology and is considered age appropriate, the other is a free choice. Technically students learn about Characterization, Setting, Feelings and Empathy.
LAMDA - LEVEL 2 Ages 11-13
The pieces learned progress in their difficulty and the technical knowledge is stretched as students are expected to know the working areas of the stage and the technical elements required when working with professional directors and technicians in the theatre.
LAMDA - LEVEL 3 Ages 13+
Learners now move into a more professional approach and begin to look at the history of theatre as well as develop their confidence with both classical and contemporary theatre as well as develop skills in both comedic and serious theatre. Knowledge becomes more in-depth examining the various theatre practitioners, playwrights and technical workings of the voice. This is the perfect introduction to Drama Schools and Colleges for those wishing to take their studies that step further.The

Children's Theatre Spring Play - Grades 5-7
In addition to the musical, students in 5th through 7th grade have the choice to participate in a spring play. They can choose either musical or play or both.

An introductory half day performing arts camp for young budding performers looking to play and create in a nourishing, confidence-building environment. Building upon the natural born talent of play-acting, we teach them enriched story-telling through speech, characterization, singing, dance, puppetry, and crafts.

Join us for DANCE IN THE ROUND with choreographer Parijat Desai to learn circle dance—plus a lot more! Parijat will teach elements of her ancestral dance garba—played in Gujarat, India and across the diaspora—with a contemporary warmup and choreography. Dance experience helpful, but not required. Youth Dance Intensive Workshop - One Day
A one day intensive workshop for serious dance students with guest instructors culminating into a showcase in the early evening. Classes genres vary and the focus is on choreography. Students will learn from a variety of teachers and be expected to pick up choreography quickly to perform at the end of the day. Dancers may also present their own solo or group dance during the showcase.
Intro to Company Dance Mini's - Ages 5-7
This class is an introduction to our older company dance class for our young dancers. Students will be asked to join based on their level of focus and interest in taking their dance technique to the next level.

Playful Discoveries Workshop
Sprout to the World's "Playful Discoveries" class is an initiative driveen by a group of international moms and educators seeking to provide a nurturing space for toddlers and their caregivers to come together for fun, friendship and growth. Through music, storytelling , games and curated activities for independent play, we aim to expose our littel ones to a variety of skills in order ot lay a holistic foundation for growth, enabling them to thrive as they explore the world around them.

Zumbini - Dance & Movement
From the creators of Zumba and designed for little ones ages 0-5 and their caregivers, Zumbini uses movement to encourage self expression and bonding as a family.
High School Audition Workshop
A workshop to prepare 8th graders for the process of auditioning for specialized high schools. This workshop focuses on monologue work and filming for submission.
Summer Dance Intensive Camp - Ages 6+
Dance Intensive camp gives students the opportunity to explore creativity while building strong dance fundamentals. Throughout the week, dancers will be introduced to multiple dance styles, along with conditioning specifically designed for dancers. Students are grouped by age and experience level. Camp is held Monday through Thursday from 9am-4pm with a final performance for parents and guests on Thursday at 3:15pm.
Shakespeare for Kids Camp - Ages 6+
This camp will focus on various approaches to acting Shakespeare’s verse, with the aim of bringing the actor closer to the text. Students will explore text from a technical approach (including iambic pentameter, rhetoric, punctuation, etc) to personal connection (e.g., imagery and character) in an age appropriate way giving students a better understanding of the literature. Camp is Monday through Thursday from 9am-4pm and Friday 9am-3pm with a final performance for parents and invited guests at 2:30pm.
Theatre Workshop - Weird Sisters
Be part of the development of a new work for summer 2026 - The Weird Sisters. Each workshop will focus on script and music composition for a new musical to be performed in August 2026. You do not need to be part of the summer production to participate in the workshops.

MSTDA level three of company dance. Students must audition to be part of company dance.
Tap ages 6+
Students will learn basic tap steps in a low pressure high energy environment. There will be an open class at the end of the Fall session for parents to attend. Students will also be invited to participate in the annual MST&DA Dance Concert in the Spring.
