Featuring Guest Chef Gabi Obebode

La Soupe is excited to welcome Chef Gabi to learn her take on Cooking Improv!  Join us for a playful, hands-on cooking class where creativity takes the lead! No rigid recipes here — just fresh ingredients, quick thinking, and delicious surprises. Whether you're a kitchen novice or a seasoned home cook, come ready to laugh, experiment, and learn how to weave West African and Caribbean flavors and culture into your everyday cooking — one improvised step at a time.

Meet Chef Gabi

Recently featured in Cincinnati Magazine, Gabi Obedobe was born in Ghana and raised from age nine in the U.S. She originally set out on a path toward medicine, earning a biology degree and working as a clinical researcher. But her love of sharing West African and Caribbean culinary traditions pulled her into the kitchen, leading her to found Afromeals in 2019, a beloved Cincinnati-based brand offering seasoning blends, catering, and cooking classes rooted in African and Caribbean cuisine out of Findlay Kitchen in Over-the Rhine. Beyond Cincinnati, Chef Gabi has developed recipes for Food Network, appeared on television as a culinary personality, and been named among the Top 100 Most Influential African Chefs. Through her nonprofit, the Afromeals Foundation, she also works to fight food insecurity in the community.

Space is limited! Don't miss this chance to cook alongside her as she teams up with La Soupe turning rescued ingredients into delicious food with an African/ Caribbean flair. Register today!

Cooking Improv! Cook Together, Learn Together, Make a Difference

Join us for a free, family-friendly cooking class that brings neighbors together around good food and a great cause. In this hands-on class, you'll learn the art of cooking with what's on hand—the same resourceful approach we use every day at La Soupe to rescue food, reduce waste, and feed our community.

You'll also get a behind-the-scenes look at how we Rescue, Transform, and Share food to fight hunger and keep perfectly good ingredients out of the landfill.

What you'll do:

  • Discover La Soupe's mission and learn how food rescue works
  • Build essential kitchen and knife safety skills
  • Help prep rescued produce destined for La Soupe meals
  • Cook creatively—no recipe required—using whatever's fresh that day
  • Sit down to a shared, family-style meal with your fellow cooks

With guidance from our chef instructor, this class is your chance to grow your kitchen confidence, taste something new, and give back—all while connecting with others in the community.

No cost, no experience needed. Just come hungry, curious, and ready to have fun.
