Holiday Maker Classes
This season, use science to create unique holiday gifts! While applying STEAM concepts, students will learn about chemistry and make gifts they can give to parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles this season. Students will come home with 3 or more unique gifts at the last class. Shhh... we don't want to share what they are!
KIDS CODE: Amazing Apps
Join anytime! Students work at their own pace learning how to create apps that they can download and play on their own devices!
Unit 1: Coordinates & Basic Commands is where all students should begin their journey into typing app coding. The apps in Unit 1 illustrate the use of 2D coordinates in graphics programming, as well as Bitsbox's fill, stamp, and text commands.
Unit 2: Variables & Simple Methods introduces the use of placeholders for values and making code easier to change.
Unit 3: Conditionals & Screen Interactions introduces how to run code if only certain conditions are met and shows how to use the tap and grab functions to create interactive apps.
Once students have mastered their current learning goal, they will learn to code with fun themed coding adventures such as Apposaurus Rex, Monkey Business, Top Secret or Super Powers! Students get to choose a theme and then work through a series of apps offered at a range of difficulties - perfect for programmers of all ages!
CLASS IS LIMITED TO 8 STUDENTS.
NOTE: B3 will provide the computers for programming. Students can then access the programs they create using QR Codes.
NOTE: Students must be able to read independently.
Jr Robotics
Junior Robotics
Join us as we explore the world of coding & robotics! This class will expose our junior learners to all things Robotic! Students will rotate through learning with different types of robots and kits.
Robots include:
- Lego WeDo & Lego Essentials: where students use Scratch coding to create programs for robots built from Legos
- Ozobots: bots that are programmed through color coding
- MouseBots: use problem solving and sequencing to solve puzzles with a robot mouse
- Edison: Design a Bot for Sumo Wrestling, create a maze for your bot to follow and more
- Snap Circuits: discover the world of circuitry
Junior Robotics is designed for students aged 5 to 8 who may or may not have experience building with LEGOS and Robotics. In addition to learning coding and engineering concepts, students will also develop their literacy, math and social-emotional skills as they turn concepts into reality. Students learn to follow-instructions when building and programming their autonomous robots. They then get to explore and problem-solve while customizing their robotic designs. This class is designed for emergent readers (children still learning how to read).
Class size in limited to 8 children.
Science Thinkers K
Science Thinkers is a year long drop-off course that will introduce Kindergarteners to the world of science. This curriculum is fully aligned to the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).
Kindergarteners will cover:
UNIT 1: Our Senses - DONE
UNIT 3: Seasons and Weather
UNIT 2: Properties
UNIT 4: Plants
UNIT 5: Animal Life Cycles
UNIT 6: Force and Motion
As with all homeschool classes, parents are always welcome to stay.
Daily routine will include free play and a kinder-friendly science lessons. We will incorporate stories, investigations and experiments. There will be occassional optional activities to be completed between classes.
Feel free to reach out and join anytime!
Science Thinkers 1st/2nd
Science Thinkers is a year long drop-off course that will introduce First and Second Graders to the world of science. This curriculum is fully aligned to the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).
First Graders will cover:
UNIT 1: Matter and Energy
UNIT 2: Survival of Living Things
UNIT 3: Weather
UNIT 4: Space
UNIT 5: Earth’s Surface
Second Graders will cover:
Unit 1: Matter
Unit 2: Living Things
Unit 3: Habitats
Unit 4: Earth's Systems
The first unit will cover the similar material as we help students transition into our routine. We will do our first couple of classes together as we learn about being a scientist and the scientific method. For the remainder of the unit, students will be split into two groups based on their grade level. We will continue to do some activities together and some based on grade appropriate curriculum. We will have two teachers in the classroom at all times. As with all homeschool classes, parents are always welcome to stay.
Daily routine will include free play, science investigations & experiments, read aloud books, activities as a whole group and grade appropriate lessons. There will be occassional classwork to be completed between classes.
Note: Depending on how many students register, we may adjust the curriculum with parental input.
Edison Robotics
Robotic Engineers
B3's Edison robots are durable, hands-on STEM tools that teach coding and robotics to students ages 8 - 16 using three progressive programming languages (EdBlocks, EdScratch and EdPy) and barcode programming. Edison robots feature various sensors, including a sound sensor, light sensor and line-tracking sensor, allowing for real-world interaction. With an expandable engineerings system and integration with LEGO bricks, students engage in hands-on minds-on engineering, coding and robotics projects.
