The Creativity Shell will be hosting FREE sewing workshops on Monday, July 30thfrom 10AM – Noon at the Imaginarium located in Irondequoit. This workshop will introduce children ages 6 - 17 to the creative world of sewing and give them the opportunity to make a small project on a sewing machine.
The Creativity Shell is a nonprofit organization on a mission to use creative trades to educate and inspire the next generation of makers. The organization teaches sewing/textile arts and other trades classes to students in our private studios, public libraries, schools and shelters that rescue children from homelessness, trauma and human trafficking. All of their classes are designed to educate and inspire children by teaching them essential life and practical skills.
To keep in line with the Imaginarium mission to promote earth friendly practices, students attending the Creativity Shell will be working on a small sewing project in order to positively demonstrate forward thinking and alternative methods of construction.
“We hope to see a lot of children at the workshop.” Says Shelancia Daniel, founder and executive director of the Creativity Shell. “We believe that teaching practical skills like sewing and up-cycling to children will help them find solutions to some common waste problems that we have today such as throwing out a shirt if you lose a button.”
There will be 4 (1/2 hour) time slots available for children to sew. Space is limited so please register early for the time that you can attend.
