For the Spring 2020 Semester, homeschool students enrolled in Creativity Shell Homeschool Education classes will be learning to sew, cook, build and create while learning all about Africa!
The Creativity Shell is a non-profit organization that teaches sewing/textile arts and other creative trades to children in their private studios, schools, community centers, libraries as well as shelters that rescue children from homelessness and human trafficking. Their programs are designed to educate and inspire children while teaching essential life and practical skills at the same time.
Homeschool students enrolled in the Africa themed classes will learn to sew, cook, build, design, create and more using African themes, ideals and principles as inspiration.
Students will have the opportunity to learn to sew African clothing and accessories, design/build African themed homes, pottery (making water jugs), African beading, cook African foods and more.
Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to showcase some of their designs and items made in the Creativity Shell’s annual fashion show Creativity Rocks – (The theme is Africa) on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Humble Civic Center!
Monday's: Grade 1 - 3
Projects for the Tuesday homeschool class is designed for students in Grades 1-3. There may be times when children are younger or older in this group, but it really depends on the child. Please contact us if you have any questions about the age range and if your child might work better in this class compared to another.
During the Spring 2020 Semester, students will have the opportunity to learn:
* Sewing/textile arts
* Screen printing
* Wood working - Making African weapons and accessories
* Cooking - African Foods
* Industrial Design - Building minature homes
* Fabric dyeing - Indigo dues
* Embroidery Arts
* Cosplay/Costuming & More!
* If your child has taken this class before, they will be working on new projects.
Class projects are based on the skill level of the students in the class. We use sewing/textile arts to strengthen fine motor skills, patience and coping before we dive into more difficult projects/arts. This program was designed by Shelancia Daniel, M.Ed. to meet the needs of students who learn well from a Play/Experience Based education perspective. Our classes are also designed to teach students practical skills such as problem solving, coping, decision making, reducing the need for instant gratification and being proud of the things you make!
