Preschool

This is an open studio/social club just for the 5 and under crowd, We will play with color while we paint, squish, drip, experiment, print and just have fun. We will explore a variety of tactile materials:water, dough, bubbles and sand.
This is a MESSY experiential class! We supply aprons, BUT sometimes kids just don't like them.. so please dress for mess!!
SIDE BY SIDE CLASS (adult MUST stay with child)

COST: $5 per 1/2 hour Cash or check preferred. Credit cards, $15 minimum.

STUDIO STAR CARD - $50.00 for 5 1/2 hours      
     * Cards can be used for more than one child and time will be marked off in 30 minute increments.
     * They do not need to be used consecutive weeks
     * Can be used for Preschool Studio and Toddler Studio

Preschool Studio  is a wonderful creative experience, its fun and messy!  Cooking, Science and Art will be featured in this class to encourage Experimentation, Independence, Imagination, Exploration, Innovation and Curiosity.  Part social club and part mini maker space.

GRADES K - 2

This class encourages young artists to plan, paint & play!  We’ll work with composition & design in a variety of mediums while being inspired by magical subjects and stories!  Mediums include: painting, drawing and sculpting.  Inspirations can be anything from castles to mermaids, or magical creatures to imaginary landscapes.

In this class, students will learn the basics of designing comic books and comic characters. If you’re just looking to have fun or take your skill to the next level, Gifford designs lessons that are entertaining and help you grow as an artist! Each class will touch on a different subject such as Anime Concepts, Action Poses, 3D objects, Hand Poses, Animals, Comic Page Layout, and more! Just bring a sketch book and your imagination!

Art Club students will delve into magical lands this session, through drawing, painting, sculpting, mixed media and imaginative creating! Enjoy a fun and nurturing art environment with Miss Anna, and create art inspired by magical lands & creatures. 

 


Jan 09, 2020 - Feb 13, 2020


This class will focus on the amazing versatility of watercolor painting! Come learn and apply a variety of techniques: wet-on-wet, washes, layering, graduation, dry brush and more! Sprinkle some salt, dab some rubbing alcohol, apply wax resist and see the cool effects! We will paint a snowman in a snowy scene, create a landscape, and more. We will learn about color theory while mixing our own original colors.

Instructor has 10 years experience teaching homeschoolers in a multiple age setting.

Love Art?  Kristen loves art!  Create, explore and discover new materials and ways to use them. You may be sculpting one week and painting the next, get your creative juices flowing and discover how much fun art can be!



Studio I

GRADES 4-7
Learn how to sew by hand and machine basics.  Students will learn how to thread a needle, sew on a button and some basic hand sewing stitches.  Sewing machines are available or you can bring your own.  We will be working with fleece and cotton to create projects which will incorporate sewing skills. Materials will be supplied for most projects will let you know if they need their own material 1 week ahead of class.

GRADES 4-6

Come and experiment with a variety of materials and subjects while learning the fundamentals of drawing. We will practice shading techniques, portraits, perspective and other areas of drawing. Each week we will cover a different subject and media, providing a balanced foundation of drawing skills.

GRADES 4-6

Draw, paint, and create!! This session will explore awesome ways to use basic studio materials. Your ideas can really shine with texture, shading and design! Bring your wild imagination and one of a kind mind to FALL STUDIO ARTS!
 


Jan 09, 2020 - Feb 13, 2020


Do you love art that you can touch?  If so come learn the fun possibilities of working with fibers!  In this class you will learn the basics of Needle Felting.  We will work three-dimensionally to create multiple fun whimsical projects, snow owls, mushroom houses, penguins, Guinea pigs, truffula trees and more. Students will get to explore many different techniques while being creative with color and texture.  The possibilities with fiber are endless!

This class will teach you a variety of watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, graduation, dry brush, layering washes, and more. Sprinkle some salt, dab a little rubbing alcohol, try wax resist and see the cool effects! We will create our own original winter landscape. Color theory will be applicable as we explore mixing and color "bleed".

Friday fun with fabric, fiber and string.. a great wrap up to a long school week.  We will get warm and wooly while we create with stitches, spin fiber, finger knit and more.  We will explore fabric dye techniques and printing.

GRADE 7+

Any teen who is passionate about art will enjoy this evening course! Designed to support you in finding your own passions, ideas, and strengths through art, you can look forward to dynamic projects, discovery through exciting materials and traditional technique. Students can work on thier own projects or can work on a medium of choice to create projects,  Goals are to to develop skills and to explore mediums such as drawing or painting. Working with a trained artist can allow for students to develop drawing skills or fill holes in portfolios for art school applications.
Perfect for students planning an art related degree or students who want to explore the possibility!

Community Arts

ADULTS
In this mini- workshop style class, come create various projects and partake in some low-pressure art in a variety of mediums. "Be brave" and show up to create some art with some great folks. No experience needed. Each six week session features different  projects.  We look forward to some daytime creative community art-making time.

JAN 9  10:00- 11:30.       Peaceful Acrylic Winter Landscape      Teacher:  Sarah Barrow             
Using blending and painting techniques to make a sweet winter landscape.

JAN 16. 10:00- 11:30.     Felted Leaf Pins           Teacher: Rachel Benson                                   
Using needle felting technique, create leaves that can be made into pins to adorn jackets and sweaters this winter season. 

JAN 23 10:00- 11:30.      Marbled Trinket Bowls.    Teacher: Michelle Landry                               
Create these wonderful swirly marbled trinket bowls for your home or gifts, using polymer clays.  

JAN 30 10:00- 11:30.      Needle Felted Fox          Teacher: Rachel Benson
Using the needle felting technique, create this adorable sleeping fox with wool roving.  

FEB 6.   10:00- 11:30.     Wax Resist Watercolor Hearts & Mandalas    Teacher:  Anna Birch
Explore bright colors and have some fun creating on this February day. We’ll do two projects that work with concentric patterns and different mediums. Watercolor, Oil Pastel, Stencils, Permanent Markers.

FEB 13  10:00- 11:30.     Paper Fun- Mixed Media Cards & Art   Teacher: Anna Birch
Using eclectic papers, ephemera, old stamps, images and drawings, we’ll make a fun set of cards together! This is a workshop where you can play and cut and compose some great cards or small art pieces to frame.

We will explore color and experiment with magical effects that only watercolor painting can provide.  We will use our glorious New England landscape as our subject and apply step by step, individual and exploratory instruction.

ADULTS

This class will take you through creating a painting from planning to completion.  Linda will lead you through composition, planning, sketching and finally, painting.  Acrylics are a wonderful medium and can be used in a variety of ways to create the piece of work you will be proud to display. This class is a perfect place for students who want to move forward in their painting experience.  Individualized attention and welcoming atmosphere allows students to use the time to learn, practice and hone skills.  Many take the class multiple times to paint with a mentor.

This Fine Art Class is appropriate for Beginner and Intermediate. Acrylics are a versatile and forgiving paint medium. Learn to capture the effects of light and color while acquiring skills in color mixing, paint application and glazing to create magical effects in subjects of your choices.

Stained Glass
Jan 08, 2020 - Jan 29, 2020


4 WEEKS  January 8 - 30
Come explore the art of stained glass.  You will make a stained glass piece that is at least 15 pieces of glass.  In the class you will learn how to cut, break, grind, copper foil, and solder your piece.  The finished piece will have hanging material and be ready to hang in your window.  The finished piece can also be a wonderful gift for someone special.  Please, bring a pair of rubber gloves (like dishwashing gloves) for glass handling.
