Join this exciting program that invites kids to step into their creativity through songwriting and recording. Students will be given tools to find their own voice, be encouraged to dig deeper into the artists they admire to create their own original music and work together with peers to bring arrangements to life in a recording studio setting. We will collaborate on arrangements, album art, and celebrate each students artistry and unique voice.
As part of this course, each student has 10 weekly one-on-one sessions at Hootennny where they will hone style, vision and then song write and arrange. Once a month*, we will have a Recording Artist retreat where students will bring their work to the group and explore recording, album artwork, and collaboration with their peers songs at Myronomy Studio (250 44th St). The studio offers a chance to explore all the exciting equipment: microphones and recording software, electric guitars and bass, drums and keyboards.
The semester ends with a public performance. Venue TBD. All Recording Artists will leave this course with a work of art for your ears.
We ask that students have at least 3 semesters of Hootenanny private lessons (or outside music instruction) and are comfortable playing at least one instrument.
*Fall Session Artist Retreat Days and Times at 250 44th St:
-Saturday September 27, 1pm-5pm
-Saturday October 25, 1pm-5pm
-Saturday November 8, 1pm-5pm
Recording Artists should plan to attend the entirety of every retreat day.
As technology becomes more prevalent in our lives, it's more important than ever to foster kids' creative thinking and ability for collaboration. The intention of this class is to instill this strong foundation through the act of creating music.
