Learn to Code: Game Development

In this course taught by Kids Can Code, computer programming will be taught through game development. The fundamental programming skills of logical thinking and problem solving are applied to creating a fun & engaging project. While the focus will be on strengthening Python coding fluency, students will also delve into art, sound, game design, and many other technical subjects as we encounter them. The class will be project-based, and students will walk through the creation of basic/classic games and how they are created (simple physics simulations, procedurally generated content, beginning AI, and other useful algorithms).  Students will be very surprised to learn how math-intensive game development is (everything from algebra and trig through college-level math can be needed), so a side benefit of the class will be some early exposure to math topics students will see later on, applied in a practical context (www.kidscancode.org).

The class will take place for an hour and a half after bell dismissal. 3:15 - 4:45pm

DATES:  THURSDAYS - 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18
