Chanda Thornton is the founder of The Word in Motion Dance Company located in Tri-State area. In 1996,she was in a car accident that doctors said would leave her totally disabled for the rest of her life. However, she praised God until her divine healing and restoration came. She believes that the Lord has created her to praise His Name in the dance, Psalms149:3) and to teach others how to put God’s word in motion and receive the fulfillment of God's plan for their lives. Praise dance is a tool to usher in the presence of the Lord and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.. Pastor Chanda began her studies of dance at Long Island University where she obtained her B.A. She was a graduate student at New York University. She taught dance and literacy for New York City Board of Education for many years; where she received her Certification in dance..Pastor Chanda has traveled throughout the country conducting conferences, Workshops, and Prophesying and ministering through dance with miracles, signs and wonders following. She has performed in conjunction with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company as well as ministered in worship conferences  along with world renowned Cedric Ford of Shekinah Glory Ministries, Canton Jones and Rev. Jackie McCullough. Along with her many accomplishments, Wicomico County  recognized The Word In Motion for it's Outstanding achievement in community service. The Word in  Motion was also featured in the Manna Newspaper as a Cover Story in October 2005 for  how it has impacted so many lives and transformed many perspectives of the true meaning and  purpose of Praise dance ministry. Chanda Thornton was ordained and licensed as a minister in 2006. She was also ordained as a pastor in 2009 and served as an assistant pastor at Kingdom Family Worship Center in Maryland. Chanda now surrenders her gifts and serves as a member of Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, NY. The word in Motion has also been featured in the Daily Times Newspaper for it's accomplishments in December 2008. In December of 2007 and 2008 , The Word In Motion was Featured in concert at the Salisbury Centre Mall on Boscov's Stage. The Word In Motion has appeared on numerous television and radio broadcast, including  PAC 14 in Maryland and Virginia. Our company also expands far beyond dance. Chanda is also the Liturgical Spokesperson for the well known Dance wear manufacturer Body Wrappers/ Angelo Luzio.  We have  designed various  garments of praise and Praise Props which are available at our online store

Joseph Thornton Elder Joseph Thornton is the co-founder of The Word In Motion Inc. He has a prolific ministry that spans across the United States. God has used him to coach the youth and mentor them as well. He has also been instrumental in changing the lives of many men during his outreach experience as a part of the prison team ministry. Elder Joseph Thornton also functions as a prophet in the body of Christ with an international message as God sends him into the four corners of the earth to bring a message of healing and redemption. Elder Joseph Thornton has been featured on Television as well as radio broadcast. At a young age Elder Joseph’s gifts were recognized and he was signed at a record label, he surrendered his gifts to Christ and has sung in ministry events with world renowned worship leader Elder Cedric ford of Shekinah Glory Ministries. As a worship leader he writes and composes songs for ministry. He also ministers and prophecies through dance with a Davidic anointing.Along with Elder Josephs many accomplishments He graduated from Adelphi University with his Degree in Business Management. He was certified as a Business teacher and commissioned by God to educate the body of Christ in Business matters. Just as God is the creator of all things, He believes that God has called us to take dominion in the earth, own and create opportunities as our heavenly father does. He functions as a web designer and computer analysis for The Word in Motion Inc. He also owns his own home based computer business where he trains individuals on entrepreneurship and financial independence. Truly he is a trail blazer in the kingdom of God impacting lives and bringing Change to a nation. Just as Joseph in the Bible became a financial governor and a deliverer to his people, Truly Elder Joseph represents the Joseph Generation bringing the anointing and impartation for restoration

 In 2003,Shayla  joined Bethel Christian Center where she currently serves as a head leader over the events team, and performing arts ministry.Shayla is  also a youth leader, children’s ministry teacher and sing on the Praise Team. Shayla also is the Vice President and Company Manager for Head of My Life Productions, a theatrical company that produces stage plays and community events. Shayla has been  teaching and participating in praise dance for 18 years and mime for 10 years. During these years God has definitely shown Himself mighty through her  ministry. She attended The Word in Motion dance school as a student in 2010 where she studied the biblical history of dance, dance choreography, flags and dancing in the prophetic.  After taking these classes Shayla's ministry  reached new heights and she gives all honor and glory to God. In 2014, She was also given the  opportunity to teach at the Word in Motion dance studio as a mime instructor. Even through that opportunity, God allowed her  to extend her  training and learn in other areas; such as: ballet, flags, and praise dance. In 2015 Shayla obtained her certification in Liturgical Dance through The Word In Motion Liturgical Certification Course.  Dance is an intricate part of Shayla's Ministry and life. Every time she gets a chance to minister or teach, she gets excited because it is another opportunity for God to use her, as a willing vessel that desires to do God’s will.  Shayla  truly has a heart to teach others to go forth in excellence in dance ministry for the glory of God.

Karen was licensed as a Minister in 1997 and ordained in 2001 at the Centurion Chapel in Ft. McClellan. On  September 12, 2002, Karen was Ordained as an Evangelist by Colonel, Dr. Floyd E. Sullivan.  Karen has served in a myriad of leadership positions to include Youth Sunday School Teacher, Youth Choir Director, Praise & Worship Leader. She has also served as a Minister of Music. In April 2001, God called Karen to minister in Liturgical dance.  Karen currently servers under the Leadership of Pastor Steve & Lady Rita Smith of New Destiny Christian Church in Gadsden, AL.  In 2010, under the unction of the Holy Spirit, Karen’s pastors prayed for her through the laying on of hands, and she was appointed as the leader of the Church’s Unified Arts Department.  In September 2011, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, Karen laid the foundation for the church dance ministry.  God equipped her with innate talent and graced her to lead and train a team of 21 adults. Karen praised God through dance, traveling locally in different states including Hawaii in 2014 and internationally to Germany in 2015, spreading the Gospel through dance. She has danced for conferences, church programs, weddings, funerals, the Deaf and Blind school in Talladega, Alabama.  Her movements in  liturgical dance often consist of using creative  expression and different props to convey the message.  She has a love for props and use them to enhance the songs she ministers to. God laid on karens heart to seek more training.  Karen enrolled in an online dance program, The Word in Motion Liturgical dance teachers’ certification course under the mentorship of Pastor Chanda Thornton in 2016. Karen completed her studies and graduated salutatorian on May 5, 2017.

Ronda Marie Brown,  is a licensed Dance Educator for the NYCDOE at the High School for Humanities and the Arts and an Adjunct Dance Professor for the City University of New York @ York College in the Office of Adult and Continuing Education. She is the Fine Arts Department Head at Perfecting Faith Church Freeport, NY, where Donald A McClurkin Jr. is the Senior Pastor.  She holds an AAS in Business Administration from SUNY Morrisville, a BA in Drama, Theater, and Dance from CUNY Queens College, BS in Business Administration from SUNY New Paltz, a MS in Educational Administration, Leadership and Policy Studies from Hofstra University, and a Liturgical Dance Teacher Certification from The Word In Motion Dance Company where she graduated Valedictorian. She received dance training from Ms. Eleanor’s School of Dance, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation Dance Academy, Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center, Progressive Movement Dance Studio, American Dance and Drama Studio, and Dunamis Performing Arts Center.  Her prior dance training afforded her the opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center, The Famous Apollo Theater, The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Giants Stadium, Queens Theater in the Park, Carnegie Hall, Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theater, and Nikon Theater at Jones Beach. She birthed the J.OY. Dance Ministry in 1997 at the Bethel Gospel Tabernacle Fellowship International, under the Bishop Roderick R. Caesar, over seer. The ministry grew from one division of dance to nine divisions in 2005. God then transitioned her to Perfecting Faith Church. She began as a Principal Dancer, Department Administrator, Assistant Department Head, and now Director of Fine Arts. Her ministry at church correlates with her current employment. Added to the dance department in 2015, is the Transition Dancers for Life (TD4L Roman 12:1-2). The Transition Dancers for Life was originally birthed in 2007 at Robert S. Grossley New Preparatory Middle School 8 for Technology and the Performing Arts where Ronda wrote and implemented a dance curriculum for students in grades six through eight.  As a certified teacher of Liturgical Dance, Ronda can instruct students in proper liturgical dance styles and techniques, coordinate and organize dance conferences and workshops.
